Briefly summarize the emotions the speaker experiences during Porphyria’s Lover. For example, in the first ten lines his heart is breaking as he listens for Porphyria’s arrival, and then he relishes the warmth and cheer she creates.
Firstly, the speaker seems really strange because he does not answer porphyrias calling and is like thinking a lot. It seemed that he was sad and angry Porphyria is still going with his other lover. Then, as you read the poem he starts to feel happy and glad that Porphyria says she loves him. This made his heart swell and to think Porphyria worshiped him. Then, the speaker kills Porphyria and is like in love with her more dead than alive because he kisses her and stays with her hughed.
How do the speaker’s emotions change as the poem progresses?
First, he is like sad and angry with Porphyria. Then he feels she worships and loves him because she says to him she loves him. Then, at the end he kills Porphyria and feels like he loves her even more because he kisses her and hughs her while being dead.
Why do you think the speaker murders his beloved?
Because he believes she will never be totally for himself and only by killing her he could be all the time with him. The moment he kills her he feels taht finally he can be with her all night and stays hughed with ther and kisses her.
